Psalm 103:11 says that God’s love toward us is greater than the heavens are higher than the earth! That is an incalculable amount, but we’ll give it a whirl = ) It’s difficult to catch the scale listening to a video – so, let me spell out the veggie/Empire State Building Scale of Gods love. If you consider the earth as the size of a pea, how does the solar system compare? Let’s put that right next to the Empire State Building. The moon comes only 30 earths away. So, the moon comes just ten inches off the ground. Not far at all (FACT! I said somewhere between your knee and waist, but only 10 inches, so unless you are a newborn, more like at your shin). Mars comes somewhere on the 10th floor of the Empire State building. Just think of yourself sitting like a tiny speck on earth and yet you have to go ten floors up till you reach our first planet! The Sun is somewhere at the 26th floor. We are a quarter of a way up the Empire State Building now, and our little pea-sized earth is hardly visible on such a scale. And yet, God’s love extends far beyond that. As far as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His lovingkindness toward us. What about the whole solar system? Well that is 1.8 billion miles across. Who can fathom that? I can’t. On our veggie scale, you go up five Empire State Buildings! Or a horizontal scale, from the bottom tip of Manhattan all the way past the Freedom Tower to Chambers Street (a little more precise would be the Pakistani Tea Room). But God’s lovingkindness towards you extends even further! Beyond the Galaxy. Our Solar System is tiny compared to the Milky Way Galaxy. Where is our pea-sized earth compared to the Galaxy? If you put the pea on the ground next to the Empire state building, going horizontally, you go beyond the NYC, past New York State, outside the United States. You have to go vertical. Our Galaxy is so large that if the earth is the size of a pea, then the galaxy stretches from earth to mars and back twice! That is beyond comprehension. And so is God’s love. It is beyond the heavens. It is out of this world! And His love was demonstrated by coming from beyond the heavens to earth. 2,000+ years ago to be born to a poor, Jewish family in Bethlehem. He lived a perfect life for you, died a sacrificial death and rose gain from the grave, conquering death. What a joy to know He is God, and He loves you enough to come to rescue you. That is love that is out of this world. How much does God love you? “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. 13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him” (Psalm 103:11-13)
